Overview

The Environmental Sustainability program incorporates themed units for each grade level that enhance environmental stewardship and creative efforts in sustainability practices. Lessons are designed to actively engage students in the concepts of earth systems science, sustainability, and organic gardening in order to develop environmentally conscious students with a love for nature. The Sustainability curriculum dovetails with each grade level’s curriculum, providing a place for hands-on, project-based learning to flourish. Students in Kindergarten through Grade 6 keep a Field Journal to record weather data, chart plant growth, and write descriptive observations about the natural world. Many of the grades experience a seed-to-table approach to organic gardening techniques, eating the fruits (or veggies) of their labor.

  • Eco Team

The Eco Team includes parents and teachers whose purpose is to bring awareness to our community about environmental topics. The largest event this group hosts annually is International Earth Day, on or around March 20. The Eco Team also participates in Coastal Cleanup days and helps to educate our community about pollution, protecting local watersheds, and the global water cycle.
