Children are economists too! A mix of math and logic, economics is the study of choices people make to be happy. We do this everyday when we decide which shirt to wear, which TV show to watch, and what to eat for lunch. In Discovering Economics, students will learn about the main economic principles through games, real-life examples, and team discussions. In doing so, students will better understand the world around them, how business is done, and how the economy functions. With a solid foundation of how the world works, children can apply the same reasoning skills to make better, more informed choices. Miss Nathalie has a cum laude BA in Economics and has taught Economics for over 20 years. Last year's topics will be reviewed and new topics will be introduced.

Join the Legal Eagles Moot Court Club where budding barristers take flight! If you love legal arguments and want to flex your public speaking skills, this club is for you. In our moot court club, you'll get hands-on experience with researching complex legal issues, writing persuasive briefs, and presenting oral arguments in a simulated courtroom setting. We will receive a set of facts from The Constitutional Rights Foundation Orange County (CRF-OC) on the admission of evidence in a candy-related copyright infringement matter. Successful high school mock trial students will periodically serve as coaches and mentors, providing invaluable insights as you develop legal insight and courtroom confidence. You'll learn how to draft convincing legal positions, think on your feet, and face tough questioning from judges—all useful skills for future legal careers. At the end of the session we will hold an in-house competition. The top two teams from the competition will be invited to return for the spring session to prepare for and participate in CRF-OC’s countywide competition at a local courthouse in front of a Superior Court Judge. If you enjoy intellectual challenges, love to debate, and want to spread your judicial wings, join the Legal Eagles!

This individualized writing course is designed to follow each student's unique interests and passions with the goal of publishing their own book! We will focus on various genres and writing techniques that will be adapted to support the needs of the class. Students will work towards creating their manuscript and sending it off to the publisher on or before our last class. Included in the course fee, each child will receive one copy of their published work in the format of a hardcover book. Additional copies may be purchased separately. The Rockin’ Readers after school program offers resources to help your students rock away the hour while learning reading strategies.This after-school experience will be fun and interactive. It will be a great way to motivate kids to read and get them talking about books. Using my 29 years of experience as a reading specialist, I will challenge students to think about what is being read through open-ended questions and activities. The reading process will be taught through a variety of formats like cooking, games, joke books which benefits concentration, vocabulary, reading skills and memory. In each session a story will be read by Mrs. Marino. We will then work together to draw their favorite characters from those books. The step-by-step instructions in class will teach the students valuable lessons in how to draw, listen to directions, take their time, and ultimately give them the tools to begin to draw their very own characters. Students will leave the class with a love of picture books, and as confident picture book artists. It is a great course for those who love to draw or for children with perfectionist tendencies. Join us for an exciting and enriching after-school adventure in our ‘Intro to Improv’ class, designed for third through eighth graders. Led by an experienced instructor with a decade of theater expertise, this program offers young minds a unique opportunity to develop essential life skills through the art of improvisation. Through games, exercises, and collaborative activities, students will build confidence, enhance their communication abilities, and foster creativity in a fun and supportive environment. Improv encourages quick thinking, adaptability, and teamwork—all while sparking laughter and igniting imaginations. Your child will not only hone their performance skills but also gain the self-assurance and resilience needed to excel in various aspects of their lives. Discover the magic of spontaneity and boost self-esteem in this engaging and transformative course. The final week will include a showcase for families.
