  • STEP 3: ASSESSMENT

Decisions are based on matching applicants with the school's mission and philosophy.

    Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten Process

Pre-Kindergarten: Children must be four years old and fully toilet trained by September 1. Screening involves faculty working with a small group of applicants (10-15) for a three-hour assessment in the pre-Kindergarten classroom. During this time, faculty get to know children using directed activities, cognitive skills, and free play.

    Kindergarten:
Applicants must be five years old by September 1. Faculty meet with a small group of about 15 students at a time to engage in activities designed specifically for this age group and are standards in most all preschools. The play group will take about two hours.

    First through Eighth Grade Process

First Grade: Applicants must be six years old by September 1. First-grade teachers meet with applicants from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on a Saturday. Applicants will take the Admission Assessment for Beginning Learners (click here to watch a video with your child of what to expect) as well as participate in age appropriate classroom activities during the morning. The admission committee will then select applicants to return for a class visit. Following the class visit, final decisions will be made.

Second and Third Grade: All applicants attend a group testing session with our faculty. During this session, applicants take the Primary ISEE (click here to download information about what to expect on the ISEE) and participate in a small group discussion with applicants for their grade level. Based on a review of all applicants by the admission committee, applicants who appear to be qualified are invited to return for a class visit. Final decisions are made after the class visit.

Fourth Grade: Applicants take the ISEE 4 online (click here) at The Pegasus School. The ISEE takes one hour and is followed by participation in a small group discussion and classroom activities. Based on a review of all applicants by the admission committee, applicants that appear to be qualified are invited to return for a class visit. Final decisions are made after the class visit.

Fifth through Eighth Grade: These applicants are required to take the ISEE (Independent School Entrance Exam – see www.iseetest.org. Our school code is 054191) ) that assesses their math, verbal, and writing skills. Based on a review of all applicants by the admission committee, applicants that appear to be qualified are invited to return for a class visit. Final decisions are made after the class visit. Click here to download information about what to expect on the ISEE.
  • STEP 4: DECISIONS

Decisions are posted online for Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, and First Grade applicants the week of March 1. Decisions for Second through Eighth Grade applicants are posted around the second week of March.

The Pegasus School encourages applications from siblings of currently enrolled families. Siblings who qualify through the admission process are given special consideration for the first available spaces in the grade level to which they apply. Siblings take part in the admission process at the same time as all applicants, and notification of sibling admission decisions is given at the same time as all other applicants.

While we would like all children of affiliated families to be able to attend The Pegasus School, it may indeed not be the most appropriate match for every child. In such instances, families are encouraged to meet with the Director of Admission for clarification.

We support a rolling admission policy for any remaining available spaces.
